Ordinarily, I don’t think of a man worrying about how his body looks. Maybe the size of his penis and his pocket or his muscles. I’m sure he’d like to be ripped, but realistically that takes some real work and dedication. Once your body has transitioned from its youthful resilience its no piece of cake getting into shape.
So what do men obsess about with their bodies? And what is the commentary on the difference between the way men and women show their concern about their body image?
A woman looks at herself and she sees herself in comparison to doctored images in magazines and television. She filters her image through what it is believed men are attracted to. She will enhance and change her looks based on these things. A woman will actually endure pain and discomfort to look good.
Men, however, don’t go this far. This leads us to believe that he just doesn’t care…it is what it is. Or, he’s just that confident. Sure, we’ve heard of men going as far as wearing Spanx for men and getting cosmetic surgery to enhance himself, but this is not generally respected. What about the metrosexual man? How is he viewed? Is he too concerned?
It seems like a man will put in a little extra effort when he is presented with the prospect of a new relationship or conquest, but once you have accepted him he relaxes. And….it is more acceptable than a woman relaxing her appearance.
